AKA new musical releases I'm loving at the moment, including a rare non-metal rec! Starset have released a video for The Breach, which is delightfully cliched, story-driven technohorror set to catchy alt rock. The lengths Starset have gone to for their previous concept albums have been most of what made them special - these are the guys who launched their career pretending to the PR initiative of a cult who believed Nikola Tesla received world-saving messages from the future, leading to what is still one of my favourite bizarre, funny, unapologetically nerdy music videos of all time. My fingers are crossed for something similarly indulgent this time around.

Just as cliched (though sadly less coherent and also less pretty) is the Bad Wolves Lifeline video. I'm indifferent to the visuals, but I actually like the song - it's their first single since Asshole McWingnut got kicked out of the band, and the new vocalist is a great fit for their style. Looking forward to the full album when it comes.

On the more definitely metal side, the new Carcass album, Torn Arteries, is ... well, it's a Carcass album, and you either think that's a good thing or you don't. I'm on team Yes Please More Of This and so very much enjoying the new riffs. The video for Aephanemer's new single Panta Rhei appears to suffer from filmed-during-lockdown-itis, but I'm still in full Number #1 Marion Bascoul Fangirl mode and I love getting to hear her clean vocals alongside her gorgeous scream.

And the honour of post title goes to The Reticent off Insomnium's new EP, Argent Moon. I'm sure one day Insomnium will release an album that doesn't make me tear up at least once at its sad yet hopeful beauty, but today is not that day. It's gorgeous.
