I love those Anne of Green Gables miniseries SO MUCH. I would love to rewatch them. Or at least the first two, I never saw the third one.

The third one was the least based on the source material, and by far the most controversial - my sister loves the first two but absolutely hates that one. I loved it as a teen but admittedly haven't rewatched it since, so possibly I'd feel differently now? I guess that just means I should do a rewatch and find out, lol.

I haven't watched The Disaster Artist but I have read the book, and it could have been on my 100 book list now that I think about it. I'm sure the movie would make an interesting comparison.

That's so relatable lmao. My memory for movies isn't great: unless it makes a really strong impression on me, I often only have a clear memory of one or two really striking scenes, which could just as easily have come from gifs or youtube shorts.

I only ever saw the Anne of Green Gables ones as whole movies, but a few people have now mentioned them being released as a miniseries - I wonder if this was an "Australian release was different" thing, or an "I got to it late once it had already been repackaged as movies" thing? Either way, excellent viewing. <3

Maybe a bit of both! They were originally miniseries that aired in one-hour blocks here in Canada, but I'm guessing they were released on home video and into syndication in other countries around the same time, and it just made sense to watch them as movies. I feel like miniseries were popular on the CBC in the period after cable TV happened but before streaming—like they wanted to lure people into watching regularly but knew they couldn't press their luck and expect viewers to stick around for more than an hour.
