My sister and I pretty much live in an isolationist two-person Murderbot nation of our own because neither of us really vibe with the rest of the fandom, but if other fans are really embracing the adaptation with open arms then I must be even more out of sync with them than I realised because, like, they've completely mangled everything the books are about??? I'm not an adaptation purist, I get that the adapted story has to stand on its own and it's inevitable that there will be changes, but everything I loved about the books has been torn out of the show and replaced with stuff I hate. (And the white casting of Murderbot is another thing I'm deeply salty about because there is literally NO REASON for it to be white, if anything its whiteness is actively out of place in a canon where most human characters are described as having brown skin and where the other racial "cues" all point towards nonwhite cultures.)
Andor definitely got fucked by having to be so compressed, but I'm willing to cut them exactly zero slack for that because the readiness with which they reached for all these lazy misogynistic tropes to close off all their female character arcs in a hurry feels emblematic of why the tropes are so shitty in the first place. Pressed for screentime? Throw a woman under the bus! Still pressed? Here, throw another one! Like. You guys are the problem. The problem is you.
