This was going to be a catch-all music post, and I had some good shit lined up for it - there's been multiple great new releases just recently, like the new Wolves in the Throne Room album, and fantastic new singles from Be'lakor and Butcher Babies.
But then I finally listened to the new Iron Maiden single, Stratego, which I was dragging my feet on due to not particularly loving The Writing on the Wall last month, and now I don't have a working brain so much an empty skull through which the echo of Bruce Dickinson's voice rings pure and unchecked. I've listened to it so many times since last night. I'm listening to it right now. I'm a good way towards having the lyrics memorised already. I love it so much that it seems to have rubbed off on Writing on the Wall as well - or maybe that one just needed a few more plays, which some songs do. Either way, I'm now obsessed with both singles and vibrating out of my skin for the full album release in a few more days.
God, I just, I love this band so much. If I've got my teenage timeline straight (admittedly not a sure thing), they're the first "real" metal band I ever fell in love with, and it was by a path that would curdle a few "real" metalheads' blood in their veins - I was in the most rabid throes of my My Chemical Romance phase, and Gerard Way named Maiden as an influence, so I bought a greatest hits compilation off iTunes out of mindless fifteen-year-old loyalty. I think it was Rainmaker, of all things, that hooked me? Anyway, years have passed and my weakness for emo lives uncomfortably alongside my love for extreme metal, but Iron Maiden has never lost the power to reach inside my soul and satisfy all the cravings that underlie both passions.
Need new album NOW. It's so unfair that I have to wait. :(((( <3333
