Senjutsu by Iron Maiden came out in full today and it made me cry twice. Whether 100% of the emotional impact is down to Maiden's musical mastery and sweeping epic themes, or whether I maybe spilt a little Current Events on it as well, could take a few more spins to decide. But I'm happy to give it whatever time it needs. It's everything I was hoping for and an all-around fucking excellent album.

It's nice to have one new thing to enjoy, because I'm otherwise in a bit of a media lull. I'm rereading Pratchett's witches and binging old seasons of the Great British Bake Off, and I'm keeping my husband company while he watches Buffy, only that last one may not have been the best idea because he's picked back up at season 5 and I'd forgotten just how many issues I have with some of the later game writing choices. I'm enjoying it, but in a bittersweet, can't-go-home kind of way that makes me half wish I'd left it alone to preserve the rosy glow of nostalgia.

I'm also most of the way through sewing a freestyle sort of wrap skirt out of some scrap crepe I found tucked away, but I had my second jab yesterday (yay!!!) and between the stiff arm and the headache I'm having trouble finding motivation to finish the hems and lining. I'm tempted to just give up on today, chuck a fruit crumble in the oven and rewatch Star Wars for the quintillionth time. Or maybe listen to Senjutsu again. It's really, really, really  good.

Duuuude, I don't think I've ever knowingly listened to metal (I am terrible at recognizing genres so I'm working off pre-conceived notions that turn out false 90% of the time I talk with someone who actually knows stuff about music lmao, audio-visual media degree boyfriend is very amused with me), but this amount of feelings for this new album is making me wanna listen 👀

Rewatching beloved things and regretting not leaving them in the nostalgia field of memory is sad, sorry <3

Sewing!! Nice! I had a sewing phase a couple years ago, but I'm terrible at keeping hobbies going (when they're not fandom lol) so I've stopped and sold all my stuff 🙈

OMG, not to, like, Pounce way too hard, but Iron Maiden are a great first metal experience! :DDD They're more on the catchy/melodic side of things, not too heavy or extreme, and since they've been around so long (formed in 1975 or so) you're almost guaranteed to be unknowingly familiar with artists they've influenced. In terms of best songs to try off this album, they were right to choose Stratego and The Writing on the Wall as the most accessible singles, but I also can't resist plugging Hell on Earth as my absolute favourite (not to mention one of the tearjerker culprits lol).

Sewing is one of things I learnt young that I tend to drift in and out of - I'll go through intense stages of sewing a lot, then leave my machine in a back cupboard to collect dust for two years. I totally get your pain on hobbies, though. Trying new things is so much fun! Practicing them regularly, on the other hand... :'D
